Fam. vol. II

Well… yesterday I wrote about Doug Dubois and his family photos and if that wasn’t enough today I went to see the exhibition at Galleri STALD “My brother from another mother”. Nicoline Skotte – a friend and a damn fine photographer – portrays her kid brother and father in an odd, fragile, intimate, and loving way through her wild photographs. The universe is slightly disturbing and you are left with the feeling that something is wrong – totally wrong but filled with love.
If you’re in Copenhagen you should definitely go check her pictures.

I’ve always been a big fan of what you might want to call family photography.
I think one can get intimate, close, and trusted in a way which is only possible when you’re around your relatives.
Doug Dubois has done so with his series of photographs from 1984-1992 and 1999-2006. His images are silent, vulnerable, and disturbing to some extend and shows the every day life of a family like so many others.
Books & books

I’m currently reading Kerouac’s classic “On the road” from ‘57. I ordered it together with Robert Franks “The Americans” on Amazon since I’d been recommended them from a fellow student at Fatamorgana.
I find that the two books go very well together spirit-wise. So when I need to take a break from Sal and Dean’s hectic drive through the States I flip through the black and white photographs of Robert Frank.
If you have any other experiences with photographs and literature I would very much like to hear of them…

The final run

This is it… After four months at Fatamorgana the first semester came to an end. Today I presented among the rest of my class my final project: a reportage from the tiny danish island, Skarø.
The rest of the series presented today were of an extreme high standard and I find myself utterly amazed to see how much people have moved photographically in the last six-teen weeks!
If you want to check my series and the rest of my fellow students work please come to the opening of the exhibition: DANSEhallerne, Pasteursvej 14-24, 1778 København V - Wednesday June 2nd, 5pm
Hope to see you there!
Welcome!

Welcome to the blog of photographer Frederik Korfix Schultz. This is the place I utter my opinion on photography and life in general.
